The Compasses

The Compasses t-shirt takes the instrument itself as its subject. In Masonic teaching the compasses are the emblem of restraint, reminding a brother to circumscribe his desires and keep his passions within due bounds, and this plate draws them as the fine brass instrument they are.

The margins hold a pair of dividers, a compass with a pencil in its second leg, a protractor, a circle divided into six by arcs and the golden ratio worked out in sepia, with the Square and Compasses and the letter G in gold at the centre.

The brass detail is sharpest on the black tee.
